Day1 (2012.8.5)
Waked up at 7,too late. Had breakfast and prepared breakfast for next day and tea bags……ect.
8:10 ready to go, and met Martin(Germany, have hiked in Mt. Bartle Frere from tableland side.) and knew he was leaving. He would like to hitch hike to Outback and Kununurra. I waited him and lifted him to Ravenshoe, then turn back to intersection and turned to Millaa Millaa. I was very sleepy when I arrived Millaa Millaa about 9:30 . Perhaps because I worked six days this week and slept late last night. I slept in my car and waked up at about 11:10. Then I drove down coast side and approach car park of Josephine Falls after 12. I felt hungry. So I ate at start point. I started after 1 o’clock.
13:28 started with 3.4L water.

This fungus was funny.
Met two wide creeks with single-log bridges . Current in second creek was slow, and the water was deep enough to sink in. I can see mass and litter of reef in the way.

15:17 Big Rock camp. Saw a tent and a way to Broken Nose. Thought about keep going to Eastern Summit camp or stay here tonight. Finally I decide to go to Eastern Summit camp, and meant that I had to walk in dark for 2~3 hours.
15:39 Sign “4”(4 km)

16:47 Rested then restarted.
16:59 Sign “5” (5 km)
17: 15 Found a space was wide enough for a tent in the path. Elevation was 1069m. Walked forward short distance and met very steep section. Went back small space and camped there. It’s very lucky to camp here. Because almost this path was quite narrow, it’s difficult to find a place to put a tent in the way. I didn’t need to walk in dark and can start cooking earlier. I heard lots of bird’s singing “gi-gu”. I heard some small steps around tent and guessed must be small animals. If I went out of tent, they might be gone before I find them.
I found a place to camp.
I met a leech in tent.
20:30 Slept. I was glad that I bought sleep mat to defend cold come from groud. Here was more higher than Atherton and was much colder than Atherton as well.
23:45 Waked up once.
Day2 (2012.8.6)
4:00 Got up. Cooked breakfast and packed my staff.
6:20 Started. Sky was getting bright. The path was steep up at beginning.
6:30 I didn’t need headlamp. I grabbed roots of trees to climb up in some section.
7:28 Met a lot of bird and tried to take pictures for them. I failed because they flew very quickly.
8:11 Arrived big rock area. I found 3 species of orchid at least, one species of them was flowering.
8:40 Easter Summit camp. Elevation was 1463m. Scene was very beautiful, great. I could see the farm field in tableland and the mountains beside the ocean.

Left my backpack in evacuation hut.
8:59 Packed some staff in my daypack and left my big backpack in evacuation hut. Started to go to summit and saw sign “7” (7 km) in short time. Then I saw more species of orchid.
9:51 Finished jumping between rocks and knew that I lost my pen.
10:20 Summit.
Trees were around the top and hided all of view. But I could stand on big rock on left side to see good views.

Flower of a species of Citrus family (Rutaceae) . The leaves owned smell similar with citrus.
Saw evacuation hut from far away.
These flowers hadn’t flowered when I walked up.
This species look like Plain Sun Orchid (Thelymitra nuda)
Arrived the highest peak of Queensland should drink beer brewed in Queensland. This can is Great Northern.
10:41 Finished picnic. Went to western way to have a look, then back to Summit and eastern way.
11:21 Went out big rocks area, then found the pen I dropped.
11:42 Back to evacuation hut and packed staff, then went down steep section. I met Andrew who just took day pack to hike in one day.
More orchids flowered when I walked down.
Another kind flower of Daisy family.
These flowers which were the same in above seventh picture flowered when I came back.

Saw very wide farm field.

Sunshine can ray through petals.
12:34 Sign “6” (6 km) was on a rock, and found plenty Liparis on the same rock. I found clumps of Liparis with some flowers.
Flowers of Liparis orchid. Sunshine wasn’t strong here, so I spent long time to take picture for them.
Ants were on the flowers of Liparis orchid. I guessed they were eating nectar and help pollination too.
13:46 Sign “5”.
13:50 Rested.
13:58 Restarted.
14:52 Sign “4”.
15:24 Big Rock camp. Met couple of people whom wanted to camp there. They spent 2.5 hours returning Broken Nose.
This look like roots of Red Tulip Oak.
This clump of fern was very huge.

15:41 Sign “3”.
16:18 Met two wide creeks with single-log bridges again.

16:48 Sign “1”.
17:06 Out of trail. Then boiled water for coffee. Several minutes later I saw Andrew again and know he come from Cairns.
17:45 Drove in the way back to Atherton.
